Photo: Is That California?

"Hey, what's that out there? Is that California?"
"No, that's just the front yard."
"Oh. Is that California on the other side of it?"
"No, that's the street!"
"Is that California on the other side of the street?"
"No, that's just the neighbor's house!"
"What's on the other side of that?"
"Another house, another street, then more houses and streets..."
"But not California?"
"Nope."
"What happens if I keep going?"
"You'll get lost!"
"No, I mean..."
"Yeah, I know. If you run for long enough, you'll eventually make it to the next city."
"Is it California?"
"No, California is even further away. Hundreds and hundreds of miles!"
"Oh."
"It's also not in that direction! You'd have to turn left at some point!"
"Sometimes I miss California. Just a little bit."
"But you like it here too, right?"
"Yes! A lot!"
"And we like having you here, too!"



I actually experimented a bit here, with some editing techniques based on the HDR photography I've seen from others. The original image had too much contrast due to the back-lighting, so I divided it into three areas and altered the gamma curve of each one separately. The end result looks kinda like I didn't do anything at all, and that's exactly how I intended it!

Come to think of it, this might've been a good one to add my "false-color" effect to as well. Maybe I'll experiment with that later.
